Zantrex 3 - A Brutally Honest Review Of This Fat Burner
Updated on: September 14, 2018
Hellow my dearies…
It’s Bonny with yet another review of a dubious product!
And the reason I decided to write and collect all the Zantrex 3 reviews I could find was because I myself couldn’t find any legit ones while (thinking of) purchasing it…
So let’s review this Zantrex 3 pill, and see if it really works in
2017 September 2018.
1. So What Is Zantrex 3? Is It A "Fat Burner"?
Zantrex 3 is a dietary supplement manufactured in the USA by an unknown company! :S
Diet pills, capsules, fat burners, shakes and “mixes” have always been the money makers in the dietary supplement and weight loss industry.
Companies such as these are cashing on our insanely fast moving world.
Take a pill > lose weight tomorrow.
This seems to be the order of the day.
The company behind the Zantrex series of products is called Zoller Laboratories, based out of Utah.
Although I couldn’t find too much information about the people behind it, there were quite a few press mentions, magazine articles featured on the site.
But of course, like the gazillion dietary supplement companies out there, it did feature the usual FDA disclaimer at the bottom of EVERY page on their site.
*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose treat, cure or prevent any disease. Use in conjunction with any sensible diet and exercise program. Individual results will vary. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
Whenever I see this statement, I get a little bit cautious.
Anyhoo, the Zantrex products comes under two “types”:
The Zantrex-3 and the Zantrex-3 Fat Burner
The company advises not to use both these products together.
Alright, so that’s enough basic information about the product, let’s now dive into the review, side effects and more...
2. Zantrex-3 Ingredients and Side Effects
Let’s have a look at each of the ingredients and see if they do really help lose fat.
1. Yerba Mate Extract: This is a South American beverage obtained from a native tree. It has been used by the local tribes for centuries for clarity and vitality before it found its way in the zillion dollar supplement industry!
Due to its quickly accelerating popularity, a research was conducted which did indeed prove that Yerba Mate could be helpful in weight management.
Here’s a link to the research for the geeks!
2. Guarana Seeds: are popular seeds used to extract caffeine. They find their way in most of our popular “energy” drinks. The energy comes from the caffeine content. So primarily this is included to keep you upbeat while your appetite is curbed.
But is it really that simple?
Suppress your appetite and at the same time stimulate your central nervous system for weight loss? Does it really work this way?
Unfortunately not. We’ll see more about this later.
Let’s continue for now.
3. Trimethylxanthine: is nothing but caffeine again, found in your morning coffee. Once again, to give you an energy boost. But the amount of this is so high, that it can bring about a lot of side effects that we’ll see soon.
Here’s a nice government research on trimethylxanthine: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20492310
4. Damiana: Has been shown to induce thermogenic effect when combined with Yerba Mate extract. But I couldn’t find any academic or government research regarding this.
Although WebMD warns of severe side effects with this. We are talking about seizures and rabies like symptoms!
5. Kola Seeds: Not much information could be found about these.
6. Schizonepeta: This one’s very odd. There is no research or findings indicating its usage for losing weight. Its most commonly used in the East for Sore Throats, Fevers or Colds.
7. Other Ingredients:
Black Pepper (fruit) Extract, Rhodiola crenulata (root) Extract, Asian Ginseng (root) Extract, Maca (root) Extract, Cacao (seed) Extract, Black Tea (leaf) Extract
The above have literally no scientific backing for anything to do with obesity!
At the most, Ginseng has been shown to slightly lower blood sugar in a very small clinical study. Geek link: http://nccam.nih.gov/health/asianginseng/ataglance.htm
But the others?
I call it a hodge-podge of ingredients! Nobody knows what they do? Then just dump them in and call it a “proprietary blend”.
SUMMARY: It’s a soup! The only ingredients that MIGHT do anything to help would be the green tea extract and the Yerba Mate extract. But at unknown quantities, we simply do not know how effective they would be. Not to mention NO SCIENTIFIC research or trials have confirmed that ANY of these help you lose weight. Period.
3. Zantrex 3 (and the Fat Burner) Side Effects:
The most common side effects of Zantrex 3 or even Zantrex Black are:
If you notice, most are ones associated with excess caffeine. And it’s not surprising since there’s almost 300mg of caffeine in here!
Sure, caffeine gives a good kick before you hit the gym, or first thing in the morning, but if that’s the ONLY active agent in here…
… you can get caffeine tabs at 1/10th of the price of Zantrex-3!
The worse of the side effects are the constant headache, palpitation and irritated feeling.
I became so repulsive while on these that my husband actually had to physically stop me for taking any more pills!
4. How Does Zantrex-3 Work? (If It Does)
The premise is to keep you energized by the (monstrous amount of) caffeine in the pills, while increasing the “thermic effect” with the doubtful ingredients.
What’s the “thermic effect” got to do with weight loss?
The “thermic effect” is used to describe the energy spent by your body in order to consume (bite, chew and swallow) and process (digest, transport, metabolize and store) food.
For e.g. dense proteins (beef/pork) have the maximum thermic effect, meaning they need the max energy to process.
On the other hand, processing fats and oils requires the lowest effort, and no wonder it all accumulates on your belly!
So when your body is “processing” the food, it increases your basal metabolic rate during the process, which helps burn more calories.
Of course, there’s more to this, but that’s a gist we can work with for now.
So what Zantrex-3 supposedly does is:
Increase this thermic effect in your body so you can burn more calories.
But the most important factor is what you are eating while taking the pills.
For e.g. if you keep eating sugary, fatty foods while gulping down the Zantrex-3 pills, its not going to do make much difference.
But, ironically, if you DO eat better clean foods, then is the subsequent weight loss BECAUSE of the clean eating or because of the pills!?
More than likely, it’s because of eating the clean foods.
The pills just ‘make’ you eat good foods psychologically.
And that’s why I ask, why not eat the clean foods in the first place? Without having to buy this ridiculously overpriced product.
Summary of how Zantrex-3 works:
It aims to increase the thermic effect in your body, which would increase the BMR, resulting in more calorie burning. But that can only happen if you eat clean foods.
5. When Can You Expect Results With Zantrex-3 Or The Fat Burner?
The box says “for weight loss, take 2 capsules with a full glass of water 15 minutes before main meals.” That’s at least 4 capsules every day.
Based on the above, the company claims to reduce your weight by at least 5-6 pounds in the first month.
Although that’s a very reasonable amount to lose in your first month, you can actually drop 5-7 pounds just by eliminating two items from your diet: sugar and white foods.
If you just did that for the next 30 days, you will lose more than 5 pounds without paying exorbitantly for this 'placebo'!
In fact, if you really want to know how I, mother of two, at 39, lost over 60 pounds in under a year WITHOUT these dangerous things, keep reading this post.
Another thing the Zantrex-3 company Zoller Laboratories claims is that you will specifically lose belly fat. This is one thing that really bothers me.
People… you cannot SPOT reduce. You CANNOT decide to lose weight on a particular body part. Here’s a geek link that explains it in detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spot_reduction
You cannot spot reduce fat from a particular body area. If and when you do lose fat, it’s proportionate. And that depending on your body type and structure.
Women especially will always find it difficult to lose fat from their thighs, butt and belly. That’s because it’s natural to have fat over there ladies!
Summary: The Zantrex-3 claims are very much believable and possible. But that’s only because they are so easy to achieve (5lbs a month) that you can do it by just making a few changes in your diet.
6. My Personal Experience with Zantrex 3
My experience has been costly, $ and health-wise!
I started taking the pills when my second daughter was about 7-8 months old and I had stopped nursing.
The motivation was to lose my post pregnancy weight and get back in my old shape of course.
But after taking the pills for about 3 weeks, the side effects were so horrible, my husband had to literally snatch the bottle and hide it from me!
I became this irritated, nervous and shaky person my family couldn’t stand! And I feel so bad for my little one! :(
But the biggest issue was the constant dull headache and palpitation. It’s so damning uncomfortable!
And the worst part was that these two side effects didn’t subside for well over 2-3 weeks after stopping the pills!
And did all this even help me at all?
I don’t know, I did lose about 1.5lbs in those 4 weeks, but that might be because I was so nauseous I couldn’t it anything for days!
I mean is this how the pills works!? Let’s keep the consumers so nauseous that they will simply avoid food, and voila, weight lost! :D
No kidding, I did lose weight, but it crept back when I started eating normally. So the weight lost was mostly due to the ‘starvation’. And starvation NEVER works in the long run.
Summary: The only way I did lose about 1.5lbs with this is by feeling so nauseous I couldn’t eat anything!
So if that sounds like something you want, sure go ahead. But be prepared to feel irritated, jittery and nauseous pretty much all the time.
7. Zantrex-3 User Reviews and Customer Reviews
I had a hard time finding genuine user reviews. I did find some scammy “pill review websites" or some shady looking ‘garcinia’ hoopla sites!
The only real user reviews I could find were these:
Amanda Lara says on Amazon:
"It did nothing for me! One possibility might be because I already consume a lot of caffeine otherwise? I was really hoping for a boost with this and this product did not do it for me . Sad."
Kayla, again on Amazon, says:
I have been taking it for about 2 weeks now and have never felt so sick in my life.
I started with just 1 pill two times every day (less than what the company advises) and then slowly increased to 2 twice a day, the dose recommended by them.
Didn’t make a difference.
I feel so sick every time I eat (this was exactly like me!).
Dizzy, nauseous, headaches.
I lost three pounds, but this isn’t worth it (Again like me!).
I feel like total garbage. And I tried to work out today and felt like I was going to pass out when I finished. I’m going back to eating healthy and exercising. I think this is my body screaming for me to stop. And by the way, I am in my 20’s! Stay away from this everyone!"
Victor from Ohio sums it in a single line:
I have been taking this for 3 weeks and have yet to lose a pound. Go figure.
8. Conclusion - And What YOU Should Do!
After my terrible experience with Zantrex-3, I started reading a lot about diet pills, books and programs.
And once I started reading the really good stuff (backed by research, logic and experience), I could see three factors being repeated over and over...
You cannot lose weight in isolation.
What it means is - you cannot take some pill, do nothing else and hope it works.
It won’t work that way. You need a holistic approach if you REALLY want to lose weight, especially for the long term. The only true way to do that is it to understand your food, correct your current diet, and supplement it with some kind of activity.
All Diets Pills Are Not Evil
It might look from this review that I am opposed to all diet pills including the Zantrex-3, but in actuality, diet pills do have their place for helping us.
Here are my simple rules where they help and what to watch out for:
But apart from that, pills with dubious ingredients, shady claims are a big no no. Also, I am against products that promise the coveted ‘thermic effect’. This can be ‘had’ pretty cheaply by simple correcting what you eat!
And of course: stay away from those Garcinia and Raspberry Ketone scams. In spite of what Dr. Oz says, they have NOT been proven to work in studies. They “might” help, but 99% of the sellers are total scammers, and/or the benefit is so minimum and negligible, that it’s simply not worth the money.
Exercise Has Its Place
I firmly believe that your diet contributes 80% to your success. It will decide whether you will succeed or not. But, the people who not only lose weight, but KEEP IT OFF, also concentrate 20% of their efforts on some exercise or physical activity.
In short, if you do finally decide to put your foot down and start inculcating good habits, definitely ANY physical activity in your regime. Apart from the “calorie burning” benefits, the biggest benefits of working out are indirect.
9. So Ultimately, What Should YOU Do?
After battling with obesity for a long time(almost a decade actually!), I have tried product after product, popular and often crazy diets, pills, shakes, belts, homeopathy solutions, and what not!
But after all these years, I have found that the solution's not outside, it's within us, where the problem itself lies!
You see, most of the diets, programs are not scams. Yeah, I just said that.
Most popular diets - be it Atkins, Keto, LCHF, just about any good science-backed diet is bound to work... IF YOU CAN STICK TO IT!
That's the key - IF we can stick with a diet.
That's also the REAL PROBLEM.
We do not fail because we are trying the wrong diets, or doing the wrong workouts. We fail because we are UNABLE TO STICK TO A SPECIFIC plan.
And unless we fix this problem from the inside, no diet program, workout plan can help us.
This is exactly what I learnt from my mentor, Betty Hartley.
And this single realization has meant me dropping over 60lb, and keeping it off (mostly, I do yo-yo a bit) for over 7 years now!
So here's what I highly recommend IF you want to lose weight for the long-term...
- 1Get Betty's free 3-step guide first, which will clear a LOT of misconceptions about losing weight and give you a practical, no-nonsense ACTION PLAN.
- 2Once you get the action plan, follow it diligently for at least 6 weeks (it's only then that you start seeing some real results!).
- 3Add ONE single exercise/workout after the first 6 weeks and EXPLODE your results!
- 4That's it! Rinse and repeat. When you repeat this simple routine for a year, THAT'S WHEN YOU SEE THOSE JAW-DROPPING TRANSFORMATIONS. There's no real secret to it - the only secret is finding a plan you can stick to, and then actually sticking to it!
